Browcote Cottages

All about us

Unique Coastal Retreat - Sea Views (Spectacular)

Re-built in 1769, but dating well before this, these cottages are synonymous with smuggling, farming and the Alum trade. Crowned with this iconic date stone, Browcote owns a unique heritage. Set in 2 acres of land, they hold a key position half way up an ancient track from Stoupe Beck, nr Boggle Hole. The moorland above the cottage contain earthworks & tumuli; the nearby Peak of Ravenscar once sported a Signal Station for the occupying Roman legions.

Part of a local family business, restoring these old buildings has been labour of love for us. The cottages retain their original features as well as luxurious modern touches. We hope you enjoy them โค.

The beginning of 1769 saw Endeavour heading southwards down the east coast of South America. Joseph Banks wrote; “New years day today made us pass many compliments and talk much of our hopes for success in the year 69”.

1 Browcote Cottage

Description

And there it is – the ocean sparkling on the horizon beyond the green, green Yorkshire coastline. Yours to admire at every turn from your cottage retreat where relaxation and tranquillity await.

Ocean vistas

You’ve already admired the sweeping ocean and coastal views as you drive up to your stone cottage sitting in that privileged spot on the cliffs. And those very same vistas are yours at every turn from the inside too. Gaze into the blue and green as you sip your morning coffee at the breakfast bar. Contemplate the ebb and flow of the tide as you sit back in the garden’s afternoon sunshine. And best of all, wake up to the sea every morning from your master suite where the arch window offers the most sweeping ocean view of all.

This traditional Yorkshire home combines old and new to perfection. You’ll love the original beams throughout, the stone wall features and the pretty cottage windows that let the natural light flood in every room. And then there’s the modern comforts – those little (and big) touches that make a holiday so, so relaxing.

A giant corner sofa awaits you invitingly in the pretty sitting room where Freeview TV provides entertainment if (and that’s a big if) you get tired of watching the sea. A woodstove in a sunny yellow nook promises cosy comfort in the dining room. And the kitchen comes with all mod cons in the most tasteful of eggshell blue, chrome and natural wood, your backdrop for those panoramic sea views.

You’ll get maximum views outside too on the private patio – handily accessed from the master bedroom – and garden where you can enjoy the sunset. And then step beyond to the lovely village of Ravenscar and a vast network of walks and cycle routes that Yorkshire does so very well. Venture slightly further afield and the delightful seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby await.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

The cottage sleeps 4 in three bedrooms; the master is downstairs with an en suite bathroom and a double (2 single beds) and single bedroom are upstairs where there’s also a shower room.

All three bedrooms offer the sleep of kings with the master coming with that added bonus – a majestic view across the green, green coastal fields to the endless blue ocean.
